Just Breathe

Helping Kids Feel Safe, Calm, and in Control Through the Power of Breath.
Just Breathe teaches kids (and their grown-ups) how to use their breath to calm their bodies, regulate emotions, and reconnect with themselves.

One Breath Can Change Everything.

We all feel big emotions whether it’s nervous, overwhelmed, angry or frustrated. Just Breathe helps kids (and their grown-ups) how to use their breath to calm their bodies, regulate emotions, and reconnect with themselves.

Through storytelling and relatable illustrations, this book guides kids (and parents, teachers, and caregivers) through mindful breathing techniques like Box Breathing, Balloon Breath, and Flower & Candle Breath. Simple breathing techniques that help guide children from co-regulation with parents to independent self-regulation, releasing tension, regaining focus, and finding peace.

Why the breath?

If you’ve ever said “Just breathe!” in the heat of an emotional moment, our videos will explain why that instinct is powerful and how to turn it into a more supportive, effective tool.

Did you know that every emotion you experience has a corresponding breathing pattern? So the way you breathe when you feel mad is different to how you breathe when you feel sad, scared, or calm.

The breath is the bridge between the mind and body, and the quickest way back to calm and regulate. When you consciously change the way you breathe, you can redirect the flow of emotions within you.

Our goal is that the next time you need to say “Just breathe!”, both you and your child are equipped with the knowledge of why and how mindful breathing can help to change the way you feel, anytime, anywhere!

The Power of Emotional-Regulation Through Mindful Breathing

Imagine that our child is feeling afraid, maybe it’s an unfamiliar situation, a big change, or just something that feels really scary. You might find yourself hoping they’ll just push through it.

But this time, instead of letting feelings of fear take over, your child pauses, reminds themselves to breathe through it, and consciously changes the way they are breathing. Slowly, their body relaxes, their mind clears, and they approach the situation feeling calm and confident.

This is the power of emotional-regulation through mindful breathing.
  • For your child, it’s a feeling of empowerment, knowing they have a simple way to support themselves to manage their emotions.
  • For you, it’s a relief. No more hoping they’ll just get over it on their own. Instead, you can guide them to connect to the power of their breath, which can help them to shift their emotional state.

This skill will help your child navigate their emotions during childhood, and also lay a strong foundation for emotional well-being throughout their lives.

Why the breath?

If you have ever said “Just breathe!” in desperation to help a child through an uncomfortable emotion, our videos will give you the context and understanding as to why saying “Take a breath” truly is great advice.

Did you know that every emotion you experience has a corresponding breathing pattern? So the way you breathe when you feel mad is different to how you breathe when you feel sad, scared, or calm.

The breath is the bridge between the mind and body, and the quickest way back to calm and regulation. When you consciously change the way you breathe, by varying the depth and pace of your inhales and exhales, you can redirect the flow of emotions within you.

Our goal is that the next time you need to say “Just breathe!”, both you and your child are equipped with the knowledge of why and how mindful breathing can help to change the way you feel, anytime, anywhere!

The Conscious Kids Collection

More Than a Book

Just Breathe is part of the Conscious Kids Collection, a series of books designed to nurture emotional awareness, regulation, and empathy in children.

Our Simple Mindful Holistic Approach

Our breath is one of the most powerful tools we have. It helps us calm our bodies, steady our minds, and reconnect with ourselves. For children, learning how to use their breath builds the foundation for emotional awareness and regulation.

Each breathing practice in our approach is designed to help kids understand how their breath can change the way they feel. When they feel big emotions like worry, anger, or excitement, breathing slowly and intentionally teaches them that they can return to calm all on their own.

We offer free, easy-to-follow breathwork videos designed to fit naturally into your day. Whether you’re at home, in the classroom, or on the go, these simple exercises can help you pause, breathe, and find calm,

Our Breath is our Superpower

Let’s look at why the breath is a superpower. It’s quiet, always available, and powerful enough to calm the nervous system and change how a child feels, anytime, anywhere.

Research across neuroscience, psychology, and breathwork shows that how we breathe directly affects how we feel. The breath is one of the few systems in the body we can consciously control, and by changing the pattern in which we are breathing, we can shift our emotional state in the moment.

Experts across neuroscience, psychology, and breathwork all agree that our breath is one of the most powerful tools we have to regulate emotions and build resilience.

  • As Dr. Dan Siegel reminds us, “When we name what we feel and connect it to the body, we integrate the brain.” This integration is key for both parents and children, helping families move from reaction to connection.
  • Dr. Gabor Maté teaches that “The body says no when we ignore our emotions,” a truth many parents come to realize when stress and tension build in both themselves and their children. Through awareness and mindful breathing, we can help the body release what it’s been holding onto.
  • Dr. Joe Dispenza expands on this by explaining that breath changes our energy, allowing us to shift from states of stress to calm and clarity.
  • Dan Brulé beautifully puts it, “Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness.”

When parents and kids learn to use the breath together, it becomes a shared language of calm and a way to co-regulate in hard moments and teach children that peace is always within reach, one mindful breath at a time.

Their work shows that when children understand how to use their breath, they gain a science-backed strategy for emotional-regulation and a way to feel more in control of how they feel.

More than just a book.

Many parents feel they lack the expertise to help their child’s emotional development.

You don’t need to be an expert, you just need the right tools and guidance to help both you and your child feel calm, connected, and in control.
